A Late New Years Resolution – Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe

Well, it’s been a while since my last post … but I’m ready and excited to get back into it! After an amazing Christmas season filled with a lot of family time and a ton of delicious (and probably less than healthy) food, I told myself that in the new year I was going to get back on track and try to get healthy. Well it’s January 25th I can definitely say that has not happened as of yet, especially seeing as I went for all you can eat sushi and had pizza twice last weekend … oops. But who says the only time you can make a change is at the start of the year? So this morning I told myself that I am going to do my best to stick to eating healthy food, while still allowing myself to have a treat every now again … just not to the same extent as last weekend.

I figured there was no better way to get back on track than to have a smoothie for breakfast. I have always been a big fan of smoothies and have a ton of different recipes up my sleeve that I am excited to share with you guys over the coming weeks. No matter what smoothie it is, I always make sure that it is filled with a bunch of fruit, plain Greek yogurt, a scoop of vanilla protein powder and if there is any in the house, a handful of spinach. The fibre from all of the fruit and spinach and all of the protein from the yogurt and the powder makes this an extremely filling breakfast. I always have the freezer stocked with frozen strawberries and blueberries and cut up and freeze bananas so that I don’t need to add any ice cubes. It’s a great option if you are looking for a healthy and quick option for the morning, as you can make it the night before and then just blend it again for a couple seconds before drinking it! The first smoothie recipe I want to share with you is one of my favourites and the one I make the most often: the classic strawberry banana.

Ingredients

– ½ cup 0% plain Greek yogurt

– 1 banana, frozen

– 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (Any brand you like – I use Kaizen Naturals Whey Protein)

– ¾ cup frozen strawberries

– 1 cup water, almond milk, or whatever you prefer
